Dayton 2 DC, 2024

Junior, Political Science and Philosophy major, English minor

Aila Carr-Chellman is a third-year student in Philosophy and Political Science, expecting to graduate in May 2025. Originally, she hails from Moscow, Idaho. She spent the summer of 2023 researching the political philosophy of Motherhood under Dr. David Watkins, and is currently seeking publication for the manuscript. Aila has worked at University of Dayton's Human Rights Center for all three of her years at UD, and, in her time, has participated in three local and international fellowships. Aila has been a leader in UD's Student Government as well, currently serving as the Speaker of the Senate. She hopes to foster some of the connections she has established in DC and get to know the flyer community in D.C.

Graduate student, Public Administration, Law School

Alexandra Cline, originally from Dayton, is a driven student that graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Dayton with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, earning University Honors. She is now pursuing a Master of Public Administration. Following leadership roles at UD in RHA and SWE, she seeks networking opportunities in D.C. for future career prospects.

Junior, Political Science major

Christopher Colón is a junior from Huber Heights, Ohio. He is a Political Science major and will graduate in the spring of 2025. He has previously worked in the Ohio Senate under Sen. Nathan Manning and Sen. Stephen Huffman. He is looking to find a possible internship on this trip.

Junior, Philosophy major, Pre-Law minor

Sasha Embry is a junior majoring in Philosophy with a minor in Pre-Law. She is from Cincinnati, and expects to graduate in May 2025. Sasha is involved in Black Action Through Unity (BATU) and her co-ed law fraternity Phi Alpha Delta (PAD). Through participating in Dayton2DC she looks forward to networking and potential internships.

Senior, Criminal Justice and Security Studies and Sociology, Anthropology and Social Work majors, Social Mork minor

Emily Graham is a senior from Tipp City, Ohio, and is graduating in May 2024 with degrees in Criminal Justice Studies and Security Studies and Sociology, Anthropology and Social Work, as well as a minor in Social Work. This past Summer, Emily interned with the Ohio Department of Public Safety in their Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force. She has also participated in internships with Montgomery County Juvenile Court, Tipp City Police Department and research through the Dean's Summer Fellowship. Emily hopes to gain more knowledge about a career in government through this experience, and help narrow down exactly what work she'd like to pursue post-grad.

Junior, Criminal Justice and Security Studies and Psychology majors, Biology minor

Kaitlyn Hripko is a third-year undergraduate student, double majoring in Criminal Justice and Security Studies and Psychology, with a minor in Biology. She is originally from Medina, Ohio. One recent academic internships she's taken part in includes conducting research with the University of Dayton Human Rights Center to empower human rights in Central America. She also interned with the Akron Police Department in the summer 2023. Through the Dayton2DC program, she's looking to meet with a federal agency, such as the FBI or Secret Service, to secure an internship and future career in Washington, D.C. She is specifically interested in going into intelligence work or forensic science.

Senior, Communication (concentration in Journalism) major, Political Science and Human Rights minors

Zeakia Jordan is from Cleveland, she is a Communication major, with a concentration in journalism. She's also double minoring in Political Science and Human Rights Studies. At UD, she is the Community Service Chair of Black Action Through Unity, a journalist for UD Magazine and a cheerleader for the men’s basketball and football teams. Outside of UD, she has interned at Dicello Levitt Law Firm as its Social Justice Social Media Intern. Zeakia is excited to network and get a true sense of the communications element in the world of politics while on Dayton2DC. After graduation, she hopes to be a journalist and anchor for a political broadcast station. She hopes to gain insight and advice from those who are already in the industry and hopes to make meaningful connections.

Sophomore, Political Science major, Pre-Law minor

Nicholas Khalil is from Cleveland, and he's currently a sophomore at the University of Dayton. He's studying Political Science and Pre-Law. At the University of Dayton, he has done much to contribute on campus, including working as a student embassador for the Pre-Law program to incoming freshmen, as well as working as a teacher assistant for his Pre-Law advisor. He's also a member of the school’s pre-law fraternity, Pi Alpha Delta. He is excited to gain his first internship experience in Washington D.C. He plans to take advantage of all of the activities and events the school has planned, such as alumni meet-ups, seminars and potential interviews with government workers. As someone who aspires to be in public service one day, he's excited to have this opportunity.

Junior, Political Science major, Entrepreneurship minor

Olivia Lonchar is a junior majoring in Political Science with a minor in Entrepreneurship. She's anticipating graduation in May 2025. On campus, she's serving as the Vice President of Chi Omega and actively involved in Phi Alpha Delta. Past internships with municipal courthouses, judges and working closely with attorneys have fueled her passion for politics and law. With the Dayton2DC trip, she aims to enhance connections and broaden her D.C. network. Currently in the process of securing an internship this summer in D.C., she is enthusiastically open to other internship opportunities.

Junior, Political Science major, Marketing minor

Marlee Martin is from Columbus, and is a Political Science major with a minor in Marketing. She plans to graduate in May 2025. Last summer, she worked at the Office of Governor Mike DeWine as a policy intern, where she was able to gain valuable insight on government work. On the Dayton2DC trip, she hopes to network and explore potential career and internship possibilities.

Junior, Political Science major, Pre-Law minor

Evie McCombs, from Louisville, Ky., is graduating in May 2025. She's majoring in Political Science with a minor in Pre-Law. On campus, she's involved in the Pre-Law fraternity Phi Alpha Delta. While in Washington D.C., she hopes to network and acquire more knowledge on NGOs and human rights advocacy. She's planning on attending law school after graduation, and she believes D.C. will provide her with further insight on a career in law.

Junior, English major, German minor

Alexander Nguyen, from Springboro, Ohio, is an English major with a German minor. He is expecting to graduate May of 2025. He has never done an internship before, so he's looking forward to the opportunity to find one on the Dayton2DC trip. He'll also be looking forward to seeing his graduate school options in D.C., as he would be interested in going to law school there.

Senior, Criminal Justice and Security Studies major, Social Work and Political Science minors

Riley Patterson is a senior from Cleveland, and will graduate in the spring of 2024. She is a Criminal Justice and Security Studies major with minors in Social Work and Political Science. At UD, Riley is the President of the Sociology, Anthropology and Social Work Student Organization, as well as the UD Chapter of the Ohio Innocence Project. She is also a part of the Criminal Justice Fraternity and Honors Society. Riley currently works as a student assistant for the Criminal Justice and Security Studies Department on campus. During the Summer of 2023, she participated in the University of Dayton's Statehouse Civic Scholars program where she had the opportunity to intern for the Ohio Supreme Court's Children and Families Policy section. Riley is looking forward to gaining experience in policy and research and hopes that the Dayton2DC trip can help her make lasting connections that will aid her in future endeavors.

Junior, French and International Studies majors, Professional and Technical Writing minor

Rose Philbin is currently a junior with majors in International Studies and French, as well as a minor in Professional and Technical Writing. She expects to graduate in May of 2025. She's remotely interned with the nonprofit Child Restoration Outreach Support Organization (CROSO) based in Chicago, studied abroad in France and she's a Student Ambassador with the College of Arts and Sciences. She is a Project Lead within the organization Flyer Consulting on campus, which provides local nonprofits and small businesses with complimentary business consultation. She is hoping this trip will provide her with internship opportunities for this summer, as well as helping to gain relevant connections within the field of international nonprofits and NGOs.

Junior, Communication (concentration in Public Relations) major, Marketing minor

Sophia Pickrel is from Piqua, Ohio, and will be graduating in May of 2025 with a degree in Communication, in which she's concentrating in Public Relations. She is currently involved in Flyer PR, a student-run PR firm on Campus. This semester, her team has been working with DPAA in hopes of a rebrand for their company. This past summer, she interned at the Dayton YWCA in their marketing department. During her time there, she wrote press releases, created instagram posts and increased their social media engagement. She's hoping to attain an internship after the Dayton2DC trip, either in government or corporate PR. This opportunity will give her a chance to see the city, network with individuals working in D.C., and get a better opportunity to see the available internship options.

Junior, International Studies, Political Science and French majors, Economics minor

Julie Pugh, from Charlotte, N.C., is a junior majoring in International Studies, Political Science and French. She expects to graduate in May 2025. She will be a part of the DC Flyers cohort upcoming summer, so she's hoping to make lasting network connections and explore possible internships.

Junior, Political Science major

Griffin Reter is a junior Political Science major from Columbus. He will be graduating in the spring of 2025. Griffin is a neighborhood fellow in the UD Housing and Residence Life and Educational Officer for the Epsilon Tau Pi fraternity. His research and writing topics cover military spending, military privatization and arms control policies. He's currently interested in potential internships as well as graduate program recommendations or mentoring opportunities.

Junior, Criminal Justice and Security Studies (concentration in Pre-Law) major, Women's and Gender Studies minor

Victoria Rivera Nazario is from Carolina, Puerto Rico, and will graduate in May of 2025 with a major in Criminal Justice and Security Studies, with a Pre-law concentration. She's also acquiring a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies. On campus, she serves as President of Las Mujeristas, Undergraduate Representative of The President’s Commission on the Status of Women, Member of Gamma Phi Omega, Member of Omega Phi Delta and Alpha Phi Sigma and ambassador for the College of Arts and Sciences. She has done research with the INSPIRE U2 Program related to the sex and racial differences in income in America in summer 2022, and was a UD Statehouse Civic Scholar interning for the Ohio Civil Rights Commission in summer 2023. She has a deep interest in criminal law and plans on applying to law school possibly in D.C. Through this trip, she hopes to explore some potential internship and future career opportunities within her interests and passions.

Junior, Political Science major, Spanish and Pre-Law minors

Grace Tynan is a junior pursuing a degree in Political Science with a minor in Spanish and Pre-Law. She's from Long Island, N.Y. She's anticipating graduating in 2025. On campus, her engagements include Phi Alpha Delta, the Pre-Law fraternity and the Student Government, where she serves as the Synergy Optimization Coordinator. Eager to proceed directly to Law school post-graduation, she's enthusiastic about building connections and expanding her network.

Junior, Political Science major, Journalism minor

Abigail Ulery is from Avon, Ohio. She's a Political Science major with a minor in Journalism, and she will be graduating in May 2025. She's in the Honors College and has studied abroad at Maynooth University of Ireland. She's excited to network with UD alumni who work in D.C., and potentially secure an internship with DC Flyers.

Junior, International Studies and Political Science majors, Business Administration minor

Tess Vages is a junior double majoring in International Studies and Political Science, with a concentration in Peace and Global Security, and a Minor in Business Administration. She's from Chicago. Her expected graduation date is December 2024, and, afterwards, she plans on going to law school. Currently, at UD, she's involved in various different organizations including Women in Business, Phi Alpha Delta, Alpha Phi and a campus job as an office assistant for the International Studies Program. Last summer, she gained corporate experience working as an intern in an International Trade Compliance department. After graduation, she plans on going to law school and becoming a lawyer. She has interests in corporate law, international law and national security law. Through Dayton2DC, she's looking to expand her professional network and gain valuable advice about the possible areas and fields of her career interest.

Junior, Pre-Medicine major, Criminal Justice and Security Studies minor

Kendall Visco is a junior Pre-Medicine major with a minor in Criminal Justice and Security Studies. She is from Loveland, Ohio, and plans to graduate in spring of 2025. She aims to attend graduate school and receive a Master's in Public Health for epidemiology. She has previously studied abroad in Ireland, is a member of Dayton Civic Scholars and the Pride of Dayton. She has also begun work on an Honors thesis and will be participating in the DC Flyers program this summer. Kendall is hoping the Dayton2DC trip will build connections prior to interning this summer and learn more about the field of public health in D.C.

Senior, Political Science major, Pre-Law and Human Rights Studies minors

Kaylee Wagers is a senior graduating in the spring of 2024, majoring in Political Science with minors in Pre-law and Human Rights Studies. She is a Dayton native. On campus, she serves as the President's office's Government and Regional Relations intern and is a President's Emissary. Kaylee interned at the Ohio Attorney General's Office this past summer and is looking for full-time employment after graduation before she attends law school in 2025. She hopes the Dayton2DC trip will further her interest in policy and legislation and allow her to network with UD alums in the D.C. area.

Graduate student, Public Administration, Law School, Certificate of Nonprofit and Community Leadership 

Jada Wamsley is a Master of Public Administration (Certificate in Nonprofit and Community Leadership) student from Huber Heights, Ohio. She expects to graduate in December 2024. Jada received her Bachelor degree in Education with a triple minor in Political Science, Sociology and History from UD in May 2023. Last summer, Jada worked for Pre-school Promise as the High School Pathway Manager. Jada is the current Graduate Assistant for Education Equity Programs at the Fitz Center for Leadership in Community. Jada wants to explore career fields in government agencies, nonprofits and policy. She has an interest in human trafficking, education and immigration. She is looking forward to networking and forming relationships in D.C. with alumni and other professionals.
