Student Religious Organizations

Student Religious Organizations

What would college be without opportunities to explore and deepen one's faith? Campus Ministry is honored to walk with students on this journey, but we are also aware that student-led religious organizations can be excellent ways for this to happen! So, we work closely with the recognized organizations listed below. All of these groups have a religious purpose that is consistent with the university's mission.

Students - Information to Start a Group

If you are in the process of forming a new student religious organization on campus, please read the Guiding Policies and Procedures for Faith-based Religious Organizations, and the Position Statement on Faith-based Religious Organizations and register via 1850. New applications are reviewed twice a year. Applications are due either December 31 in order to be officially recognized for the Spring semester or May 18 in order to be officially recognized for the Fall semester. When you register, please indicate that you are affiliated with Campus Ministry.

In addition, if the organization is a campus chapter of or connected to a larger organization not headquartered at the University of Dayton, please complete the Non-UD Religious Organization Information Form.

Steps for Starting a Group

Once your organization has registered through 1850, the liaison (if applicable), and student officers will be asked to meet with the director of Campus Ministry or other designee, and a review committee to discuss the application.  The committee will make a recommendation for recognition to the Director of Campus Ministry who will make the final decision about religious/faith-based organization approval.  If this approval is not given, the process stops here.

If religious/faith-based organizational approval is granted by the Director of Campus Ministry, groups can then complete the procedures for organizational development in the Center for Student Involvement through 1850. Final approval is given once this process is completed.

Applications are due either December 31 in order to be officially recognized for the Spring semester or May 18 in order to be officially recognized for the Fall semester.

Students - Annual Renewal Process for Existing Groups

Existing organizations renew their organization annually through both Campus Ministry and the Center for Student Involvement.

Leaders of currently recognized student religious organizations must renew their organization by May 31 via 1850 for the next academic year. Also be sure to submit your Student Religious Organization Financial Report by May 31 if you have received funding from Campus Ministry in the current academic year.

If you need to update information (a new officer, new adviser, new liaison, etc.), please update that information as soon as possible using 1850.

Established Student Organizations - Renewal Process

Information required for the renewal application includes:

a. names and contact information for new student leaders and officers
b. names and contact information for new advisers or non-UD liaison’s (when a liaison changes other material is required. See application for Non-UD Liaisons).
c. a brief summary of activities for the year to provide a realistic picture of the impact the group had on UD campus life in the current year.
d. A description of goals and plans for the future
e. A year-end financial report.

Based on the information submitted, the Director of Campus Ministry or designee will review the mission and activities of religious/faith-based student organizations to confirm that they are meeting their intent and contributing to campus life in accordance with the values expressed here and in the Position Statement on Religious Ministries at UD. Organization leadership may also be asked to meet with the Director of Campus Ministry or designee and/or review committee to review their summary and goals for the future.

Funding Options for Student Religious Organizations

If your organization is interested in applying for modest financial support from Campus Ministry, please read Student Religious Organization Funding Procedures and FAQs. Be sure to submit the required financial reports using the Religious Organization Financial Report Form. This form includes both the estimated budget and the end of the year report.

Deadlines are October 15 for the estimated budget and May 31 for the end of the year report.
