Callings
Discover Who You Are Called to Be
The Callings Program is a summer program Campus Ministry offers for incoming first-year students, who are looking to learn how to become engaged leaders on the University of Dayton’s campus. Using the Marianist charism as a guide, participants will explore their faith and vocation as a student while learning about the four principles of learn, lead, serve and pray.
Is Callings for you?
- Do you want to meet other incoming first-year students who want to make the most of their UD experience, and learn from current UD students?
- Do you want to explore how you can learn, lead, serve, and pray as a member of the UD community?
- Have you been involved in your school or church through participating in service, prayer, worship, retreat experiences, or leadership?
- Do you want to explore your faith and the faith of others, while gaining an appreciation of the Catholic & Marianist character of UD?
- Are you asking the big questions: Who do I want to be? Who is God calling me to be?
- Are you questioning how you can make a difference in the world?
- Are you asking how can I connect my studies with my faith and values?

If you said yes to any of these questions... then Callings is for you!

Activities and Areas of Focus
WELCOME AND SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
During Callings, you will be welcomed by current UD students and will take a special tour of campus led by the Rector’s Office. There will be lots of opportunities for interaction among participants in a small group as well as a lot of fun large group activities.
LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
Callings provides the opportunity to explore leadership from a variety of perspectives. The Counseling Center will facilitate a session on personality and leadership. We will explore Christian leadership, servant leadership and what it means to a leader in community. Current UD students provide peer leadership for the program.
PRAYER
Each day will provide opportunities for prayer. There some experiences of prayer that have been part of the Christian tradition for centuries, and other forms of prayer that may be new and different to you.
SERVICE AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Being part of the UD community means being part of Dayton as a city. We will explore some the assets of Dayton by partnering with the Fitz Center for a tour. We will meet community leaders. We will also have a day dedicated to service.
APPRECIATING FAITH TRADITIONS AND THE MARIANIST CHARISM
Callings is open to all those who want to travel their spiritual journey with intention. Sharing the story of one’s faith tradition in an open way and respectful way can build understanding across traditions. There will be opportunities to have meals with those who have made a commitment to supporting and furthering the Marianist charism on campus and in the community.
Overall, Callings provides a welcome and introduction to the heart and soul of the University of Dayton. It provides an opportunity to meet other incoming students as well as current students, and engaging faculty and staff.
