A Vanguard Legacy Concert

3 p.m. Sunday, March 29, Sears Recital Hall

“…not your average string quartet.”
- KMFA-FM: Classically Austin

How do you make chamber music relevant for the 21st century? Invoke is a string quartet that is inventing a new path forward. They’ve been described as “…not classical but not, not classical.” Drawing on bluegrass, Appalachian fiddle tunes, and jazz—as well as new compositions by young American composers—they occasionally add banjo and mandolin to the mix. The results are impressing critics: they won First Prize in the Open Category of the international chamber-arts competition M-Prize (Ann Arbor), and honored at the Concert Artists Guild competition in New York. Their infectious energy and musicality will broaden your idea of what chamber music can be.

Vanguard Legacy Concerts: Founded by Elana and Vincent Bolling, the Vanguard series presented great classical music at the Dayton Art Institute for five decades. The University of Dayton extends and expands that tradition with support from the Vanguard Legacy Endowment.
