Julien Labro and the Chamber Collective: 100 Years of Piazzolla

A Vanguard Legacy Concert

3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, Sears Recital Hall

“…surprisingly seductive”
- The Chicago Tribune

There’s nothing like a little tango to liven up a chamber music performance. Pioneered by the Argentinean Astor Piazzolla, “nuevo tango” is a seductive fusion of classical composition, jazz and older tango traditions. And in the hands of master bandoneon player, Julien Labro, the music is both astonishing and irresistible. Born and raised in Marseille, France, Labro has been described as “a triple threat: brilliant technician, poetic melodist and cunning arranger.” Now enjoying an international career, Labro first encountered Piazzolla’s Libertango at age twelve—and it changed the trajectory of his life. For this Vanguard Legacy Concert, Labro brings together a talented chamber ensemble to celebrate that transformative encounter.

Vanguard Legacy Concerts: Founded by Elana and Vincent Bolling, the Vanguard series presented great classical music at the Dayton Art Institute for five decades. The University of Dayton extends and expands that tradition with support from the Vanguard Legacy Endowment.
