New Faculty Orientation

Welcome to the University of Dayton family!

Welcome to the UD family! We’re excited that you’ll be joining us this fall and have tremendous confidence that your skill, passion, and experience will help advance student learning and work together to fulfill our vision  to be a national leader in Catholic higher education.

Your success is important to us, and we appreciate that there is a lot to learn when starting a new position. What resources and information are needed to get started successfully at UD? That's the question we asked ourselves when envisioning sessions for our New Faculty Orientation Week.

What is New Faculty Orientation Week?
The purpose of New Faculty Orientation Week is to help incoming faculty quickly get onboard to the most necessary elements of UD’s community, systems, and support resources. It is also a time for new faculty to get to know one another and current staff and faculty who can help answer questions at any time as you begin and progress in your career at UD.

Starting with the official Welcome and Kickoff session on the morning of Monday, August 7th 2023, New Faculty Orientation Week consists of a series of sessions that are outlined on the schedule page.

Honorarium
While we believe that attendance at all of the sessions will be valuable, faculty who attend the Office of the Provost Welcome and Kickoff session on August 7th, and participate in the 8 sessions between Tuesday and Wednesday will receive a $300 honorarium. Those sessions are:

  • Who Are Our Students
  • Information Technology at the University of Dayton
  • Foundational Syllabus and Classroom Management Systems
  • Introduction to UD's Learning Management System (Isidore)
  • Creating Inclusive Classrooms
  • Understanding Academic Student Support Resources
  • Faculty Panel: What I Wish I Knew My First Year
  • Supporting Students in Distress

Please note that there are multiple sessions offered for flexibility in scheduling but attendance at only one session per topic is required for the honorarium. Attendance will be recorded at each session, and those who earn the honorarium will receive it along with their first or second paycheck.

Registration
To register, please go to New Faculty Orientation Registration Form. We will provide more details to those who register as we get closer to Orientation Week. In the meantime, please feel free to send any questions about the event to: provostoffice@udayton.edu.
