Advising at UD

At the University of Dayton, we believe that academic advising is a transformative activity that plays a crucial role in the development of the whole student. In the Marianist spirit of educating the whole person, we believe that advising is collaborative, meaning-making and promotes reflection and agency for students on their vocational journey.

Foundations of Academic Advising

Helping students find their calling and what kind of person they strive to be is at the heart of academic advising at the University of Dayton.

We believe that through meaningful partnership and collaboration, advisors will assist students in identifying their unique gifts, talents and strengths.

We believe in supporting, nurturing and fostering an environment of openness to growth and development in all aspects of student's lives - academically, spiritually, emotionally and physically.

Vocation in Advising

Explore Your Calling

At the University of Dayton, vocation is at the heart of advising. We define vocation as: “Answering a call to discover one’s unique gifts and employ them in service for the common good in ways that are personally satisfying and bring meaning to one’s life.” Advisors look to assist students in identifying and developing their unique gifts through curricular and co-curricular experiences. Each experience is integral to discerning how students might serve the common good in ways that bring joy and meaning to their lives.
