DRG calls for Facebook Live participation April 3 to discuss food systems application

Dayton Regional Green will hold a Facebook Live from 4-5 p.m. April 3 to discuss its quest for the OpenIDEO Food Systems Vision Prize. Partners in the greater Dayton region developed an application for the prize sponsored by the MacArthur Foundation. The team led by a University of Dayton mechanical and aerospace engineering professor Kevin Hallinan was one of 79 semifinalists out of 1,319 worldwide entries.

Dayton entry among top 6 percent, moves on in worldwide food system vision contest

A team led by a University of Dayton professor earned semifinalist honors in a food system vision contest run by a global design company. The group headed by Kevin Hallinan, a professor in mechanical and aerospace engineering and a sustainability scholar with UD’s Hanley Sustainability Institute, earned one of 79 semifinalist spots in IDEO’s Food System Vision Prize.

DP&L to recognize University of Dayton as a energy savings champion

The University of Dayton received another $700,000 in DP&L rebates for energy savings on campus, bringing the total to $1.2 million. And to celebrate, DP&L will be presenting President Eric F. Spina with a rebate check and recognizing the University for its continuing sustainability efforts that have resulted in the energy savings at 12:05 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, in Kennedy Union Torch Lounge.

Green Energy Ohio gives Green Achievement Award in Academia to UD

The University of Dayton will receive Green Energy Ohio's Green Achievement Award in Academia at an awards ceremony Friday, April 17, at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden. Green Energy Ohio honors individuals, businesses, universities, nonprofits, and government and community entities for promoting sustainable energy policies, technologies and practices and educating Ohioans on renewable resources and energy conservation and efficiency.

Solar prairie signage team hopes designs soon turn into reality

The University of Dayton partners responsible for the solar array and pollinator prairie at Daniel J. Curran Place feel another element is needed to tie the project together: signage.

Thanks to students in professor John Clarke’s design-science synthesis course, a system of displays was developed and could just be a final push away from installation. The signs will tell the solar prairie’s tale of innovation, partnership and experiential learning.
