UD RE-volv aims for $3,000 by New Year's Eve for solar seed fund to help non-profits
By Mark Gokavi
The University of Dayton chapter of RE-volv has raised about $75,000 the past two years to allow two local non-profit organizations to switch to solar energy. This year, the group is hoping for many small contributions by Dec. 31 to attain their goal of $3,000 for its "Solar Seed Fund."
The chapter of the national non-profit seeks to educate the community about solar energy and crowd-fund the initial cost of a solar panel array so other non-profits can install solar panels. Mission of Mary and East End Community Services have benefitted from RE-volv's fundraising the past two years.
To donate to the new fund, visit RE-volv's website. Sam Dasco, a civil and environmental engineering major with a sustainability minor planning to graduate in 2020, said the group recently received a $500 matching donation.
"The holidays are a time for sharing our blessings with others, so join the @UD_RE-volv students in sharing the gift of solar and sustainability with our community," Dasco wrote.
The fund goal is smaller this time because the national arm of RE-volv has partnered with an outside investor who is providing capital to subsidize projects across the country.
