DRG calls for Facebook Live participation April 3 to discuss food systems application

By Mark Gokavi

Dayton Regional Green will hold a Facebook Live from 4-5 p.m. April 3 to discuss its quest for the OpenIDEO Food Systems Vision Prize.

Partners in the greater Dayton region developed an application for the prize sponsored by the MacArthur Foundation. The team led by a University of Dayton mechanical and aerospace engineering professor Kevin Hallinan was one of 79 semifinalists out of 1,319 worldwide entries.

Hallinan, a Hanley Sustainability Institute sustainability scholar, said the goal of the prize is to envision regenerative and nourishing food futures by 2050.

“As a semifinalist, we are expected to refine our vision and to develop a feasible plan for taking the vision we developed to reality,” organizers said. “Selection as a prize winner can ultimately bring millions of dollars to our community to advance a regenerative, equitable, healthy, and prosperous food system for our people.”

The “engaging, interactive and socially distanced happy hour” seeks ideas and participation from youth leaders and anyone who cares passionately about the community.
