Student Transitions and Family Programs

Your life as a Flyer begins here.

Starting life at the University of Dayton is exciting and overwhelming, both for new students and for their families. That's why we developed a series of programs to help incoming students make the most of their college experience and facilitate a successful transition into the academic, social, and spiritual life of the UD community.

Beginning with Camp Blue and New Student Orientation, students are challenged and encouraged to take their first steps toward deep and meaningful academic and social engagement. These programs involve a rich combination of experiences that include meeting and working with faculty, staff and student leaders, service to the community, an introduction to academic coursework and co-curricular involvement and leadership.

Throughout the academic year, conversations of importance to first-year students are fostered through presentations on topics ranging from establishing healthy relationships to developing study skills.

The Office of Student Transitions and Family Programs is here to support your transition and answer any questions you have as orientation approaches and beyond. We hope that you will find our website to be a helpful and a convenient one stop shop that enables you to find answers to your questions as you prepare for your arrival to campus. We also request that you begin to check your UD email and Porches account regularly. Should you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact us.

Fall 2020: COVID-19 Updates

The University has announced a number of measures to protect the health and safety of our community from the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). We continue to be committed to protecting the health and safety of our campus, our community and beyond.

The 2020 Camp Blue program has been cancelled to mitigate safety concerns in lieu of COVID-19. Once the fall arrival plan has been finalized and approved by the university and Public Health officials, details and other pertinent information regarding move-in and welcome weekend programming will be communicated to students and parents.

The Early Drop-off program will not be offered for Fall 2020 because students will be arriving in phases during early August. Details regarding Fall Move-in will be released once information has been finalized by the Office of Housing and Residence Life. In the meantime, please visit the Path Forward website for the most up-to-date information regarding fall opening.

Fall move-in will be a phased process beginning in early August. Details about and instructions for the process will be released once information has been finalized by the Office of Housing and Residence Life. In the meantime, please visit the Path Forward website for the most up-to-date information regarding fall opening.

Welcome Weekend programming will be provided virtually, live-streamed, and/or through small group gatherings. No large gatherings will be permitted. Participation for new students will be required and the schedule of events will be shared directly with students in early August. Parents and family members will not stay for programming after move-in, but are invited to join welcome events virtually from home. Event details and registration instructions for Parent/Family members will be shared on our webpage in mid-August.
