First-Year Move-In
Fall Date: August 22, 2025
The first-year fall move-in process will take place rain or shine. However, if lightning is in the area, move-in will pause and volunteers will move indoors until the storm passes. UD Public Safety will monitor the weather and advise our staff throughout the day to help ensure a safe move-in experience for your family. We appreciate your patience and understanding if storms cause delays during move-in.
Additional Fall Move-In Reminders
- All family members should remain in your vehicle until you reach the unloading zone in front of the building.
- Students may exit the vehicle to check in at the residence hall lobby and receive their key, then return to the vehicle in the waiting area of the parking lot.
- Staff will be available in all waiting lots to answer questions and guide you.
- Student volunteers, called the Blue Crew, will unload your student’s belongings and deliver them to their room. Students and guests (aside from the driver) may go to the student’s room to begin unpacking.
- The driver must remain with the vehicle at all times. After your vehicle is unloaded, it must be moved so the next vehicle can unload. Please proceed to the assigned parking lot for your student’s residence hall.
- Shuttles will be available all day to bring the driver back to your student’s residence hall.

Fall 2024 Service Project
Here, at Dayton, we’re more than just words- we’re committed to action. That’s why we invite you to join us in living our mission starting Day 1 as part of the UD family.
During move-in, we will be supporting the Residential Housing Association (RHA) donation competition for our local YWCA, as well as the Hanley Sustainability Institute with cardboard corrals to recycle broken-down cardboard. Students can bring donation items to the Welcome Weekend check-in tent on Friday, August 16 from 2:30-6:30 pm to help their hall win the competition from the RHA. Donations will also be considered toward the totals.
We also encourage using reusable means to move into the residence hall, but recognize this isn’t always possible. To help keep some of our non-reusable items from the landfill, we have partnered with the Hanley Sustainability Institute to provide designated cardboard corrals throughout move-in weekend where broken down cardboard can be set to be recycled. Local homeless shelters are also be contacted if they have any folks who may be in need of cardboard for outdoor shelter and protection.
