Commuter Student Policy
The University of Dayton has a two year housing requirement. If you are requesting a release from your housing requirement to become a commuter student, you must meet one of the following requirements.
•Live with a parent(s)/guardian(s) within 40 miles of the University of Dayton
•Have graduated from high school more than 2 years by the start of the academic term
•Be over the age of 21 by the start of the academic term
Please note becoming a commuter student may impact your financial aid and must start as a discussion with an admissions or financial aid counselor. To learn more, visit the Housing Portal.
First-Year & Second-Year Students
If you are a first-year or second-year student, you must change your status through Enrollment Management. Once you have changed your status through Enrollment Management to a commuter student, the online housing contract will be specifically tailored to you as a commuter student and will require you to provide an address and contact information.
