How is the Bookstore committed to social justice?

Our Marianist heritage and University of Dayton mission includes commitment to social justice transformation.

UD Retail Operations maintains memberships in both the Fair Labor Association and the Workers’ Rights Consortium, which monitor manufacturers of apparel and other products to eliminate sweatshops and protect the rights of workers. We work only with companies that are in good standing with FLA and WRC. Our team cares deeply about where materials are sourced and where products are made. We support a fair living wage, fair treatment of workers, and good workplace conditions. We hope that you will show your support by making socially responsible buying decisions when you shop.

Fair Trade Designation

In addition to our controlled sourcing, UD is a Fair Trade Designated University. The Bookstore hosts a fair trade boutique on the first floor. Offerings consist of fine chocolates, home décor, accessories, jewelry, religious items and apparel. The Bookstore offers fair trade brands such as: Catholic Ethical Sourcing Alliance, League®, Ten Thousand Villages®, Serrv®, Novica®, Minga® and Equal Exchange®.
