Rolland Flore Populaire

Flowers of Our Lady

Eugene Rolland, Flore Populaire ou Histoire Naturelle Des Plantes - dans leurs rapports avec la linguistique et le folklore, Editions G. P. Maisonneuve et Larose, Paris, Second Printing 1967 - Eleven volumes

(posting in process - so far from volumes I through 3)

Note: Plants checked for corroborative botanical listings in Oleg Polunin, Flowers of Europe - A Field Guide, Oxford University Press, 1969, Second Printing 1997.

Rolland lists several hundred reference books from which the flower names are researched - in many European languages. Where there are religious names in English, German and Spanish not listed in our website postings for these countries, or names from other countries, these are included here in parentheses in the French name column, followed by their English translations. (It should be noted that Marzell's monumental "Deutsches Worterbuch der Pflanzennamen", from which there are some 600 listings on this website, was published after Rolland's research and is not listed by him as a German reference.
