Research Visits in the Marian Library
The Marian Library welcomes visitors, including those with no University of Dayton affiliation. We are open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30am-4:30pm.
We are closed to walk-in visitors on Thursdays (appointments with faculty and staff may be scheduled at their discretion and must be made at least 48 hours in advance). We are closed to all visitors on weekends and major holidays.
Using Library Materials
The Marian Library includes many non-circulating materials such as art, archival collections and rare books; appointments are required to use these materials. Please email marianlibrary@udayton.edu to make an appointment.
In addition, the Marian Library includes books that can be checked out by University of Dayton students, faculty and staff, as well as eligible borrowers with a courtesy card. Visitors with no University of Dayton ID or courtesy card may use Marian Library circulating materials in the seventh-floor reading room; appointments are strongly encouraged so we can locate materials ahead of time. Please see Roesch Library's borrowing information page for additional details.
Patrons visiting from out of town are advised to contact the Marian Library in advance of visiting to ensure that the materials and personnel are available. Please email marianlibrary@udayton.edu or call 937-229-4124. When you alert us to your visit, please also provide a list of materials you hope to consult. The longer the list, the longer it takes us to prepare materials, so please be mindful of the time we need to do this preparatory work.
Using Library Computers
The Marian Library has two visitor computers in the seventh-floor reading room that provide access to research databases. There are two additional visitor computers in Roesch Library. Due to licensing agreements, University of Dayton Libraries cannot provide off-campus access to research databases to individuals without a UD login.
Wi-Fi for Guests and Visitors
Open wireless internet access is available to guests at the University of Dayton.
Print, Scanning and Copy Services
Visitors are welcome to use phones, tablets and cameras for note-taking purposes as long as library materials are not damaged in the process. Camera flash and portable scanners that come into contact with the materials (e.g., flatbed scanners) are not permitted. The library can provide book weights, cradles and other supports to facilitate safely photographing materials in the reading room upon request.
The Marian Library has an overhead scanner in the seventh-floor reading room available for patron use. We recommend bringing a USB drive for saving your scans. In addition, there is a vending machine that sells supplies (including USB drives) on the first floor of Roesch Library.
Visitor printing and copying is not available in the Marian Library or in Roesch Library. We suggest using campus Print and Copy Services.
