By filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), you can be considered for need-based financial aid, including grants (which don’t have to be repaid), federal loans and University employment, or work-study options. We encourage all students to file the FAFSA, even if you think you won't qualify for federal aid, because many University-funded awards require a FAFSA for eligibility.

File the FAFSA as soon as possible, if you haven't already. You'll receive an email when we recieve your FAFSA information. Be sure to check the Financial Aid Checklist in your Admission Account — that's where we'll communicate if we need any additional information.

Explore the FAFSA

Following your scholarship award letter, you will receive your transparent financial aid offer, which provides a four-year overview of your total educational investment. You'll receive an email when your offer is available in your Admission Account, and the printed offer will follow in the mail.

We began sending financial aid offers to first-year students in January, and we'll continue on a rolling basis. After you receive your aid offer, please feel free to schedule a 1:1 virtual meeting with your admission counselor to discuss any questions.

After You Confirm Enrollment

After you confirm enrollment, you'll receive access to your Porches account. Named after the beloved porches in our student neighborhood, Porches is the digital home for your personalized next steps and opportunities.

Porches opened for confirmed students in early February. Watch for an email inviting you to activate your UD account so you can begin completing the following items.

Porches To-do List Items

Your UD email account is a Gmail account administered by the University. We recommend that you sign into this account on your phone to receive notifications of new messages. This is how campus partners, including your academic adviser, will start communicating with you over the summer.

New Student Orientation is required for all incoming students. In June, you'll spend a full day on campus connecting with the Flyer community, registering for courses, exploring campus resources, meeting new students and more. Orientation provides you the opportunity to learn more about the University, gain confidence in your transition and meet other current and future Flyers.

Unlike at some other schools, there is no charge for orientation. Parents and guardians are encouraged to attend (up to two guests per student).

Explore New Student Orientation

One of the most exciting parts of college life is living on campus with friends and classmates. UD guarantees housing for all students who confirm enrollment by May 1, and no additional housing deposit is required. First-year students live in residence halls, or you can request to commute from home if living with your parent or guardian within forty miles of campus (commuters must also complete the housing form, to confirm your plans).

In your housing contract, you’ll have the option to select your roommate or take advantage of our highly successful roommate matching program, which pairs students based on compatibility, not random assignment.

Explore Residential Facilities

As part of the housing contract, you'll also select a meal plan, if applicable. First year students living in a residence hall can choose between our standard and flexible meal plans. Commuter students have the option to add a neighborhood plan or can add Flyer Express dollars to their account for quick and convenient access to food options on campus.

To protect the health of the campus community, all incoming students must complete the Health Requirement Form online. You'll need to upload immunization records and complete a tuberculosis (TB) screening questionnaire to complete this taks. The deadline is June 7, 2025.

Explore Health Requirements

You’ll complete the Pre-Advising Form on Porches to help your advisor get to know your interests and goals so they can help you create a first-semester schedule that sets you up for success. Complete the form as early as possible prior to New Student Orientation, where you’ll register for your fall-semester courses.
