Assistantships and Fellowships

What You Need to Know

A limited number of graduate assistantships and fellowships are available to graduate students.

In these roles, graduate students provide a minimum number of hours per week to the department. In return, students generally receive a combination of tuition remission and a stipend. Many of these programs are administered by individual academic departments, but some opportunities are available to students in any graduate program.

If you are hired as a graduate student and file the FAFSA, federal loan eligibility will be impacted by the funding of the graduate assistant contract. Total resources from loans, grants, scholarships and graduate assistant funding cannot exceed the cost of attendance.

Example Assistantships

The graduate assistantship program is a competitive program and assistantships are limited. Assistantships can be awarded within any of the following SEHS departments: Counselor Education & Human Services, Educational Administration, Heath & Sport Science, Physical Therapy, and Teacher Education.

Specific opportunities can be found on the School of Education and Health Sciences website. Resumes are accepted for each academic year December 1 to March 1.

SEHS Assistantships

Graduate Assistantships are available in both the Department of Religious Studies and Campus Ministry.

The Department of Religious Studies Graduate Assistant program prepares graduate students for work in academic fields.

The Campus Ministry Graduate Assistant program prepares graduate theological studies and pastoral ministry students for professional lay ministry in the church through practical ministerial experience and formation.

Religious Studies Assistantships

Graduate assistantships in the University Libraries provide an excellent opportunity for students to put their emerging expertise into practice, develop their professional skills, build their networks and expand their familiarity with library resources that can support their academic work. Positions vary by department, with qualifications chosen to meet the particular duties of the position. There is not a current opportunity available.
