The University of Dayton Research Institute has been named one of the Best Places to Work in the annual organizational climate contest sponsored by the Dayton Business Journal.

The contest is open to all Dayton-area companies with a minimum of 10 employees. Companies are divided into micro, small, medium and large, based on the number of employees who work in the Dayton area. With nearly 700 local employees, UDRI is one of five winners in the category of large companies.

Once a company is nominated, its employees are invited to participate in an anonymous survey, rating their employer in a variety of categories including staff engagement, team effectiveness, manager effectiveness and other workplace best practices. A third-party company assesses the results and singles out employers who excel at creating a rewarding, challenging and enjoyable workplace.

UDRI participated and was named a winner in the DBJ’s inaugural Best Places contest in 2005, when the Research Institute had about half as many employees. UDRI Executive Director Allan Crasto said that, after 15 years of significant organizational growth, he felt the contest could again be a useful resource for assessing employee sentiment about their work environment.

“This recognition It means a great deal to us,” Crasto said. “Since we sell services, our employees are our lifeblood, and their productivity can be directly linked to workplace satisfaction. In these days of skilled labor shortage, particularly in the Dayton area, we believe our designation as one of the best places to work will also be a significant attraction to new and diverse talent.”

All winners will be recognized in the Best Places to Work awards dinner March 19 at Sinclair Community College.
