Award to benefit UDRI
$10 million appropriation for additive manufacturing research to benefit UDRI and YSU
A $10 million addition to the 2015 Air Force Research Laboratory Mantech budget to create an additive manufacturing innovation research program will ultimately benefit UDRI and Youngstown State University.
The funding, secured by U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan with support from U.S. Rep Mike Turner, will provide the Air Force with the technology and expertise to use 3D printing and other emerging manufacturing techniques to fabricate low-volume replacement parts for Air Force systems more quickly and at lower costs than can be achieved through current means.
UDRI and YSU, which have developed expertise in the technology and have played significant roles in Ohio’s growth as a leader in the field of additive manufacturing, combined their strengths to develop this program.
