As a host institution, the University of Dayton is able to receive unlimited free registration to October’s virtual Global Conference on Sustainability in Higher Education. Those with @udayton.edu email addresses can register here and should use the promotional code DAYTON30JUN21.
The conference, Oct. 12-14, offers three days of live content, keynote speakers, presenters and networking, plus 80 days of on-demand access through Dec. 31, 2021 for anyone with UD email addresses.
Four UD presentations have been offered a spot on the AASHE schedule: “Faith-Based Institutions Connecting Mission, Values and Traditions for a Just, Sustainable Future” from Sr. Leanne Jablonski, HSI’s scholar for faith and the environment, and former UD energy efficiency and renewable energy manager Matthew Worsham; “Approaches to Teaching Sustainability-Key Competencies,” by Rebecca Potter, the director of UD’s sustainability program and HSI’s director of curriculum, along with Ira Felman, Krista Hiser and Tina Evans; “Channeling Student Energy to Expand Campus Composting Efforts,” by Christopher Baldasare, Claire Abele, Emily Matthews, Joseph Lee and Lela Garner; Executive director of UD’s Hanley Sustainability Institute, Ben McCall, has a talk entitled: “Additionality: How to Ensure Your Renewable Electricity Procurement Strategy Has Real Climate Impact.”
The theme of this year’s conference presented by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education is “The future is...,” which, according to the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), reflects “the uncertainty about the future that many feel and invites participants to recommit themselves to the urgent work of building a future that is sustainable, equitable, and resilient.”
“The failure of many entities to respond effectively to a deadly pandemic, coming at a time when society is already reeling from intensifying climate-related disasters, ongoing systemic racism and rising authoritarianism, has resulted in profound apprehension about the future,” organizers wrote. “We seek to highlight inspiring examples of higher education leadership that empower participants to envision and create such a future. Ultimately, the future is ours to make.”
This is the second straight year UD has been a host institution for the conference. Click here for some of the coverage from last year’s conference.
