The University of Dayton?s 56th season of professional arts programming opens Oct. 1 and features a wide variety of musicians from across the globe.

The University’s ArtsLIVE program presents an eight-concert series through April 2018 that includes jazz, tango, classical chamber music, contemporary percussion and “bachata” music from the Dominican Republic.

Performances are held on campus and are open to the public. Tickets are available starting Sept. 1 for individual performances, as well as subscription and multi-show packages.

This season’s highlights include the acclaimed New York City classical chamber group the Claremont Trio, Grammy Award-winning Chicago group Third Coast Percussion, a Dominican bachata ensemble led by Joan Soriano and Israeli jazz clarinetist Anat Cohen.

“The ArtsLIVE program reflects our commitment to both artistic excellence and diversity,” said Jason Pierce, College of Arts and Sciences dean. “Through these concerts, we help nurture cultural curiosity in our student body, as well as in the wider Dayton community.”

In addition to support from the College, jazz concerts are funded through the Cityfolk JazzNet Legacy Endowment and classical chamber concerts are supported through the Vanguard Legacy Endowment. The Joan Soriano performance is funded through Southern Exposure: Performing Arts of Latin America. Southern Exposure is a Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation program in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts that brings contemporary and traditional performing arts from Latin America to U.S. audiences.

The ArtsLIVE season includes:

• Claremont Trio: A Vanguard Legacy Concert, 3 p.m. Oct. 1 in the Jesse Philips Humanities Center's Sears Recital Hall.
• Joan Soriano: The Duke of Bachata, 7:30 p.m. Oct. 10 in the Kennedy Union Boll Theatre.
• Telegraph Quartet: A Vanguard Legacy Concert, 3 p.m. Nov. 19 in the Jesse Philips Humanities Center's Sears Recital Hall.
• Brad Mehldau Trio, 7:30 p.m. Nov. 29 in the Jesse Philips Humanities Center's Sears Recital Hall.
• Third Coast Percussion: Paddle to the Sea, 7:30 p.m. Feb. 7 in the Kennedy Union Boll Theatre.
• Cuarteto Tanguero, 7:30 p.m. March 7 in the Jesse Philips Humanities Center's Sears Recital Hall.
• St. Petersburg Piano Quartet: A Vanguard Legacy Concert, 4 p.m. March 11 in the Jesse Philips Humanities Center's Sears Recital Hall.
• Anat Cohen’s Tentet, 7:30 p.m. April 11 in the Kennedy Union ballroom.

• Prices: are $18, with discounts available for seniors and University students, faculty, staff and alumni. Discounted subscriptions are available for the entire season, the Vanguard classical concert series or a pick-four option.
