Zero Waste Move-In
Reduce what you bring to campus
UD provides all the furniture and appliances you will need including beds, desks, desk chairs, a mini fridge and microwave. When it comes to the rest, be sure to coordinate with your roommate, so you don’t bring the same things.
Examples: Cleaning supplies, lamps, full-length mirror
When packing your items, use things that you're already bringing to wrap fragile items.
Examples: Sheets, towels, blankets or t-shirts instead of bubble wrap or styrofoam.
Reuse what you already have or buy secondhand
If you have older siblings or friends, see if they have dorm supplies they no longer use.
Examples: Shower caddy, laundry basket, chairs, futons
Secondhand stores are packed with nearly everything you need to make first-year a blast without breaking the bank.
Examples: Coffee maker, bowls and plates, décor, vintage tees
Don’t forget to bring reusable items for food and beverages so you can avoid single use.
Examples: Water bottle, coffee cup, straws, utensils, tupperware
Recycle waste from the packaging that came with you to move-in
On move-in day, bring your cardboard, styrofoam, plastic packaging and other clean recyclables to the volunteers at the collection corrals for easy recycling. The collection corrals are located behind your building near the trash and recycling dumpsters.
Through Rumpke's new partnership with the Hefty Renew program, we are able to collect items such as styrofoam, packaging and other hard to recycle plastics that otherwise cannot go into the recycling bins on campus. We know move-in can be stressful, so UD is here to make things as easy as possible to get things recycled properly.
