Melink VP to speak to students about UD's solar arrays
By Mark Gokavi
University of Dayton students can learn about solar panels on campus from the vice president and general manager of the company that installed them.
Seth Parker from Melink Solar & Geothermal will give a presentation on the arrays installed on the roof of Fitz Hall, in front of Curran Place and at Adele Center, according to Eric Lang, a senior research scientist at the University of Dayton Research Institute.
Parker’s talk is scheduled for 3:35 p.m. Tuesday, Oct 8, in Room M2265 at Curran Place located at 1700 S. Patterson Blvd. The discussion will be followed by a tour of the solar array and pollinator prairie, if weather permits.
Parker will share details on the design process, the construction, the financing, the power purchase agreement with UD and the performance of the solar arrays. Other UD leaders also may speak about the solar prairie, one of the few in Ohio.
In less than two years, Curran Place’s front lawn has been transformed into a “living laboratory” dedicated to sustainability. The solar array was installed in 2018 and a pollinator prairie was planted under those panels this spring.
