About Us

Our Story

In 2021, Dr. Susan Davies from the University of Dayton started the Brain Health Collaboratory to support education initiatives, research, and community outreach in the areas of brain injury and brain health. This involved collaborations between educational and healthcare professionals at UD and local organizations such as Premier Health, Kettering Health, and Dayton Children’s Hospital. At the same time, leaders at The Dayton Foundation and the Play4Payne Foundation met to discuss community needs related to brain injuries. Together, these organizations mobilized additional community partners and identified gaps and needs of the Greater Dayton community regarding brain injury and brain health. These identified needs guided the creation of the BHC’s four focus areas:  increasing access to care and ensuring health equity for individuals and families affected by a brain injury, educating professionals across disciplines ; conducting interdisciplinary applied research, bringing awareness to the community about brain health, and promoting related resources and events. The organization name changed to the Brain Health Collective in 2023, but our mission has remained the same.
