A Marianist Thanksgiving

By Eric F. Spina

Dear University of Dayton Family,

Happy Thanksgiving!

Although our Marianist founders did not invent this day of blessings and gratitude, it feels distinctly Marianist to me.

We will gather around our Thanksgiving tables in a spirit of friendship, hospitality, and acceptance of all who have assembled for the feast. We may invite others who are alone during the holidays to our tables. The Marianists build relationships, one at a time, and have taught us we can expand our tables as long as we treat all who join us as equals and as children of God.

Thanksgiving reminds us that we are a gift to the world and are called to share our gifts with others. On this Thanksgiving, I value and am grateful for all the gifts each of you brings to our campus community — and to our communal table.

Karen, Kaitlyn, Emery, and I wish you a joyful and relaxing holiday. May this be a time of reflection, renewal — and much gratitude.

With grace and blessings,

Eric F. Spina
President
