Humor Writer of the Month: Ann Garvin

Ann Garvin, Ph.D., is the USA Today bestselling author of five funny and sad novels. Her newest, There’s No Coming Back from This (Lake Union Publishing), releases Aug. 1.

“(Reading) an Ann Garvin novel is like curling up beside your favorite wittiest friend and laughing and crying all at once about the hilarity and heartbreak of life,” says Kristy Woodson Harvey, New York Times’ bestselling author of The Wedding Veil.

Ann writes books “about women who do too much in a world that asks too much from them.” Her writing has been published in USA Today, Psychology Today, Writer’s Digest, The Huffington Post, The Last Word on Nothing and Unreasonable, and she has performed several times in The Moth, The Vagina Monologues and Listen To Your Mother.

She is a professor emeritus from the University of Wisconsin system. She currently teaches creative writing at Drexel University in its low residency Master’s of Fine Arts program, and she has held positions at Miami University and Southern New Hampshire in their Master’s of Fine Arts Creative Writing programs.

She is the founder of the multiple award-winning Tall Poppy Writers where she is committed to helping women writers succeed. She is a sought-after speaker on writing, leadership and health and has taught extensively in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston, and at festivals across the country and in Europe.
