Eat, darling, eat
Aimee Lee Ball and Steve Baum, editors of Eat, Darling, Eat, are seeking 500-word essays about food from women writers.
"Eat, Darling, Eatis a multicultural collection of original stories, by and about mothers and daughters, each with a thread about something that's shared in all cultures, all families, all generations: food. The stories are not about perfect cooking (or perfect families), but food is a wonderful prism for exploring that essential relationship- the unique personalities, formative experiences, and family histories, sweet or sour. Humor is extremely welcomed. We take no editorial position other than our interest in presenting stories that are entertaining and informing (and occasionally challenging)," the editors said.
Each story is accompanied by a mother/daughter photo, a relevant recipe and a bio note that hyperlinks to the storyteller's own work and social media, connecting her with the site's followers in 100 countries. "Some of our storytellers have their own active platforms, including chefs, journalists and actresses; some have little other opportunity to express their voices. Every woman has a story, and all are welcome," they said.
The editors are experienced storytellers. Ball is the co-author of four books and a journalist for The New York Times, Harper's Bazaar, O the Oprah Magazineand other publications. Baum is a filmmaker and cinematographer for PBS/Nova, Discovery Channel, National Geographic and other cable and broadcast channels.
While writers aren't paid, they will receive marketing exposure. "Bringing stories to life is essentially what we've always done, and the goal is to make this storytelling experience meaningful and rewarding. What we hope is valuable to our contributors: our devotion to promoting them (and their own websites, social media, affiliations, etc) across our platforms. We love hearing from writers and literary agents that a story and bio note at Eat, Darling, Eat increased Amazon sales or traffic to their sites," according to the creators.
