Welcome Associate Dean Shaw

“I believe Lori’s strong work ethic, extensive 10 year experience as dean of students, and long history as a UDSL faculty member will serve us well as we enter into the next stage of our institutional development,” said Dean Andrew Strauss.

Shaw has been with the School of Law since 1988 as a member of the legal profession faculty. She was dean of students from 2003-2013 and the University's Title IX coordinator from 2013-2014. Shaw also held a position on the Dayton Law management team and has acted as the faculty coordinator for the Honorable James J. Gilvary Symposium on Law, Religion and Social Justice. She is also a widely published author and her latest book, Student Learning Outcomes and Law School Assessment: A Practical Guide to Measuring Institutional Effectiveness, written with Professor Victoria VanZandt, was published in 2015.

Shaw will replace Professor Thaddeus Hoffmeister who began his term Jan. 1, 2015. Hoffmeister plans to return to his full-time faculty duties teaching courses related to criminal law, technology and the jury, as well as directing the criminal law clinic. Hoffmeister, a highly-regarded author, also edits two blogs, Juries and Social Media Law, and can often be found cited in various media outlets such as the The Wall Street Journal or Wired magazine.

“I would like to again thank Thaddeus for his service as Associate Dean. Thaddeus has shown tremendous dedication to the job and he has been instrumental in the launching of new initiatives, including our new partnerships with Lexis and with Emerson,” Strauss said.

Please join the School of Law in welcoming Lori Shaw to her new position.
