SI Awards
Supplemental Instruction Awards
These awards recognize SI Leaders and collaborating faculty who provide excellent support for student learning at the University of Dayton. Award nominations are accepted twice in each academic year in November for Fall Semester and in April for Spring semester. Awards winners are selected by a committee of OLR staff and SI Mentors, based on the information provided in the award nomination form.
Awarded: Excellent SI Mentor
Major: Psychology
SI Course: PSY 216
Graduation: 2024
Bio: Despite my natural inclination toward quietness, my involvement in the Supplemental Instruction (SI) program has facilitated my personal growth, fostering openness and a strong desire to assist others. This experience has not only revealed insights into my strengths but has also highlighted areas where I struggle, particularly in seeking help for myself. The value of SI, in my opinion, lies not just in its services but in the quality of its people. These experiences within SI have not only shaped my character but have also propelled me into other on-campus endeavors, including research in Dr. Griggs's Lab and membership in Psi Chi. I aspire to pursue graduate studies in Clinical Psychology.
Awarded: Excellent SI Leader and Faculty Collaboration
Major: Business Economics
SI Course: MTH 129
Graduation: 2026
Bio: On campus, I am involved in the entrepreneurship business fraternity, Epsilon Nu Tau, and the sorority Pi Beta Phi. I serve as a Supplemental Instructor for Calculus for Business, and I have absolutely loved serving in this role as I have expanded my experience with leadership and professionalism. In this role, I have gained insight on responsibility, communication, and collaboration through working with Professor Lammlein to facilitate a learning environment of positivity and success.
Faculty Collaborator: Professor Chris Lammlein is a faculty member in the College of Arts & Sciences, where he teaches Mathematics.
Awarded: Excellent New SI Leader (Student Nominated)
Double Major: Finance and Business Economics
SI Course: ECO 203
Graduation: 2025
Bio: After graduation, my plans are to get my master's and possibly a PhD in Economics. I currently SI for Principles of Microeconomics, and I truly love the work I do. My favorite thing about being an SI is seeing students who struggled with something finally become confident in their abilities, and grasp something they didn't think they were capable of understanding.
Awarded: Excellent SI Leader (Faculty Nominated)
Major: Accounting
SI Course: ACC 305
Graduation: 2024
Bio: After graduation, I will begin working for Deloitte in their Pittsburgh office with a tax position in their business tax segment. I am the SI for ACC 305. My favorite thing about being an SI leader is getting the opportunity to help other students who have the same interests as me. Not a lot of people find accounting interesting and fun, so it's great to be able to help others who find interest in it as well.
Awarded: Excellent SI Leader (Student Nominated)
Major: Health Science
SI Course: CHM 313
Graduation: 2025
Bio: I am a Health Science major with a concentration in Integrative Physiology I currently work as an SI leader for Organic Chemistry I. My favorite part about being an SI leader has to be the wonderful interactions with students and faculty, along with the fascinating material presented in class. I plan to go to PA school upon graduation and will always remember the students from CHM 313 01/02.

Nomination Process & How to Nominate your SI Leader
Want to see an SI Leader recognized for their hard work?
Each semester, nominations for the SI Leader Awards are solicited by the Supplemental Instruction Coordinator. Nominations must be submitted via the form distributed by the SI Coordinator and must be received by the due date to be considered. Incomplete or late forms will not be considered.
To be eligible to nominate an SI Leader, the nominator must be one of the following
- a student who has attended at least 2 SI sessions during the semester
- a faculty member who is working directly with an SI Leader during the semester
- a student actively working as an SI Leader
The SI Coordinator contacts eligible nominators by email each semester and provides nomination forms to them.
Recipients of all awards, except the Excellent Mentor Award, are determined by the SI Mentor Team through a blinded review process. The Excellent Mentor Award recipient is selected by the SI Coordinator. Award recipients, as well as all nominees, are recognized at a reception at the end of each semester.
