Why I Love UD
The Marianist charism that informs UD's drive toward the common good brought me to Dayton in 2019. I continue to find the Marianist focus on educating in the family spirit a wonderful compliment to my formation in Jesuit education, and I believe very strongly in making education accessible to any individual looking to grow in leadership and service, primarily when that opportunity is concerned with the formation of the whole person. Vocation is not a theme commonly discussed in higher educational institutions -- UD's commitment to walking alongside students in their journey and bringing diverse communities to the proverbial table is why I continue choosing UD!
Biography
B.A. in English Literature, minor in Theology; Wheeling Jesuit University
Throughout my childhood, my parents always emphasized the importance of my education, supported my love of learning, and worked hard to make college an option for me. Eventually, I became the first person in my family to attend a four-year institution, earning my B.A. in English from Wheeling Jesuit University. While at Wheeling, I found new ways to grow as a member of my broader campus and city communities through my involvement as an academic, athlete, musician, and volunteer. I moved to Dayton after graduation to commit a year in service of the Dayton community with the Marianist PULSE program, leaving West Virginia and Appalachia behind for the first time. My placement with the Rivers Institute at the University of Dayton welcomed me into the community through the lens of environmental education, outreach, and experiential learning. For the next few years, I was privileged to work closely with impassioned student leaders to make environmental education and river play accessible to underrepresented communities in the Great Miami Watershed. Since returning to UD from the nonprofit sector, I find myself once again empowered to provide access to education in partnership with communities that lack the privilege I have had. I look forward to being a bridge between prospective students and an institution concerned with educating the whole person. When I'm not at work, you can find me habiting my aerial dance studio, paddling one of Dayton's five rivers, or spending quality time with my sweet cat and best friend, Pippin.
