Why I Love UD

I love UD's commitment to our students, the amazing amount of support we provide, and the resources and opportunities available to them. UD promotes a sense of belonging, a sense of community. We are all valued, our voices as individuals and as a collective are important. UD is committed to becoming an Anti-Racist Institution, not just through words, but also through action. At UD we are encouraged to seek new knowledge, adapt, grow, and work together.

Biography

B.F.A. Dance, Arizona State University

M.S. Sports Studies, Miami University (Ohio)

Former Nationally Certified EMT Basic for Miami Township Fire and Rescue of Greene County

I am the daughter of parents who worked hard for the opportunities they made for themselves. My parents were first-generation students, as was I and my siblings. Every day we were told we were going to college. Period. We knew this was our educational path, as students, learning whatever we wanted to learn at the college or university of our choice. As a first-generation student there was so much I did not know when I left for university, particularly moving from my rural hometown of Yellow Springs, to a community at least nine times its size. My experiences as an undergraduate began my higher education journey fueling my desire to help others like myself. I am grateful for the opportunities I have to help students and their familias navigate higher education landscapes, to be a resource, a champion, and an advocate for students. To help learners find their voices. To provide familias with information to make informed decisions. To watch the development and growth of prospective students as they move through the admissions process, as they matriculate, work hard and graduate. It is very satisfying knowing I have helped in some way. I am definitely a proud Mama Bear of my higher education children! When I am at work, I am usually working out in my son's gym, dancing, singing, quilting, cooking, gardening and hiking.
