Release of 2016 U.S. News & World Report Law School Rankings

School of Law Alumni Association Members,

As some of you may know, the 2016 U.S. News & World Report rankings of ABA-accredited law schools were recently released.  I am very pleased to report that the School of Law jumped up 16 places in the rankings to 145, which now places us among the "ranked" law schools (U.S. News & World Report ranks law schools from 1 to 150 and lists the remaining 50 law schools as "unranked").  For those familiar with the former rankings methodology, a ranking of 145 puts us in what used to be called the "third tier," with schools 151 to 200 in the old "fourth tier."

The School of Law has been in the fourth tier for over two decades, and so this ranking marks a significant milestone for our community.  It will significantly aid in recruiting and retaining quality students, assist with graduate employment, and improve our reputation among lawyers, judges, and academics.  While rankings are not why we exist and do not define who we are, I am nonetheless very excited and proud of this recognition of our community.  It reflects the hard work, discipline, and strategic action by the Law School's students, alumni, and leadership team, as well as the support of the former and current Provosts of the University.

As always, thank you for your support for our work.

Paul E. McGreal
Dean and Professor of Law
