Summer Educational Exchange @ Dayton - SEED - English Teachers

Improve your English communication skills and explore new ideas and ways of teaching English in a two-week program at the University of Dayton.

PLEASE NOTE: Summer Educational Exchange @ Dayton - English Teachers is dedicated to teachers that teach High School Students (8th – 12th Grade).

Individual and group teacher applications are welcomed and encouraged!

Program Details

Dates: Arrive on Saturday, July 10, 2021 by 4:00 P.M. and depart on Sunday July 25, 2021 by 11:30 A.M.

  • The University of Dayton will provide airport pickup/drop-off for those that arrive no later than 4:00 P.M. and depart no later than 12:00 P.M.
  • Classes meet July 12 - July 23, 2021

Price: $2400

Housing: Teachers reside in a double occupancy suite with each having a single-occupancy bedroom located in an on-campus residential hall. These rooms include a bed, desk, chair, closet and small refrigerator. Shared laundry facilities (free), lounges and open space for social gatherings are also available in each residential hall.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffets are offered daily to participants.

Cost Includes: tuition, room, meals, field trips, escorted pick-up and drop-off to and from the Dayton International Airport (within the designate times), and Campus Recreation facilities. Cost does NOT include visa fees, bank and/or wire transfer fees, health insurance, airfare, off-campus meals, or souvenirs.

What to expect

English teachers participating in the Summer Educational Exchange @ Dayton program will engage in activities to improve their oral and written English communication skills, and participate in training courses and Methodology Workshops. Details for each of these are as follows:

Training of Teachers:

  • 18 hours of instruction
  • Focus on exploring the American Short Story and the Literature Circles method
  • Designed to challenge teachers to expand their competencies by engaging in reflection and exploring new methods

Reflective Teaching Course:

  • 18 hours instruction (plus 5 hours per week self-guided)
  • Focus on developing knowledge and skills needed to effectively implement reflective teaching
  • Experiential training and reflection
  • Self-guided project focused on teaching

Methodology Workshops:

  • 6 hours per week
  • Workshops, presentations, and group discussions led by faculty of the School of Education and the Intensive English Program
  • Hands-on activities designed to carry over into the teachers’ home classrooms and used as a model for Training of Trainers course 

In addition to academic learning, participants have the opportunity to learn about American culture by taking several local field trips and participate in on-campus activities.
