Key Responsibilities Include

  • Coordinate meetings with various university community partners to determine technical support, i.e., lighting, video, sound, staging, and special production needs for concerts, dance performances, theatrical shows, meetings, ceremonies, speeches, lectures, PowerPoint presentations, and classroom presentations in Boll Theatre.
  • Provide customer service and technical support, and oversee setup and teardown of all events hosted in Boll theatre
  • Operate, maintain, and safeguard the technical assets of Boll Theatre
  • Liaison with Facilities Management on upkeep and improvement projects scheduled within Boll theatre
  • Supervise the Boll Theatre Stagehands

Profile

Matthew creates scenic, audio, and lighting environments for theater, opera, dance, and various live events. Matthew is currently working for Student Development in the Center for Student Involvement at the University of Dayton as the Boll Theatre Operations Manager and Technical Director.

Matt served as a faculty lecturer and Technical Director for the Theatre, Dance, and Performance Technology Program between 2011-2023. During his time with TDP, he mentored students in performance technology, created capstone courses, and contributed to the curriculum, program meetings, committees, and recruitment activities.

Matthew also serves as the Director of Production and Lighting Director for the world-renowned Dayton Contemporary Dance Company (DCDC). Internationally, Matthew has designed and worked as a stage manager for DCDC touring productions in Bermuda, Russia, Kazakhstan, China, and the United States. Matthew is also active with The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) Local 66 in Dayton, Ohio.
Regional Professional Theatres that Matthew has worked and designed for include LaComedia Dinner Theatre, Springboro Ohio, Opera Saratoga in Saratoga Springs New York, The Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Virginia, University of Wisconsin – Platteville, Circa 21 Dinner Theatre in Rock Island Illinois, Enchanted Hill Playhouse in Nappanee Indiana, Sorg Opera in Middletown, Ohio, Ghostlight Theatre Inc. in Davenport Iowa, and Horsefeathers and Applesauce Dinner Theatre in Winfield Kansas.

Originally from Davenport, Iowa, Matthew graduated in 1994 from Teikyo Marycrest University with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre. Matthew currently resides in Lebanon, Ohio, and has a 17-year-old son named Camden.
