Personal History

Bro. Mitch Schweickart is a University of Dayton graduate (1983), and has been a member of the Society of Mary since 1985.

Bro. Mitch first served in the Diocese of Kalamazoo, Michigan as the Assistant for Ministry with Persons with Developmental Disabilities, and then as Interim Director of the Office. (1984-1989). He then began ministry with St. Francis De Sales Elementary School in Cincinnati, Ohio.  For the next 22 years, he taught various grade levels and took on the role of technology coordinator and computer network administrator.

While teaching at De Sales, Bro. Mitch co-founded the Findlay Street Marianist Community, in the Over-the-Rhine (OTR) neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio.  The community sponsored immersion experiences for high school, university, and adult participants and it supported the work of neighborhood organizations, serving the residents most in need. He was active with the OTR Neighborhood Community Council, serving one term on the council itself.

In 2013 Bro. Mitch moved to Dayton with a ministry in Mechanical Maintenance at Mount Saint John in Beavercreek, Ohio. Soon he began his association with the Office for Mission and Rector at UD. He mentored several Marianist Student Communities, co-directed the Marianist Lay Formation program, and assisted with other activities sponsored by the Office for Mission and Rector.  Now working full-time as the Coordinator of Student Programs, he oversees the Marianist Leadership Scholars and the Agape Latte programs, while continuing to support the other student programs sponsored by the Office for Mission and Rector.
