Jennifer Smith joined the University in 2007 and currently serves as University Auditor. She worked in University Advancement for 16 years where she spent the majority of that time as Director of Gifts and Records Management before moving to Internal Audit in 2023. Jennifer earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing with a minor in Humanities at Eastern Kentucky University. She brings her experience with process development and improvement, quality control, and data management to the Internal Audit team.

The Internal Audit team uses a risk-based methodology that is applied to processes at the University. Internal Audit assists the University in accomplishing its mission by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluating its processes and offering recommendations to improve internal controls to manage risk. The team serves as an independent business partner and approaches reviewing risks and internal controls with a collaborative and consultative approach. 

Jennifer is happy to be part of the Internal Audit team. Her desire is to build relationships with others on campus and work with them to mitigate risk to the University in a streamlined fashion that results in improved processes for all parties involved. When she is not at work, Jennifer enjoys spending time with her husband, family, and friends…and reading a good book.
