Profile

Tommy J. McGuffey, Jr. is a distinguished figure in the realm of music, weaving his journey from the halls of John H. Patterson Co-op High School to the stages of national acclaim. Following his dedicated service in the United States Air Force, Tommy's musical odyssey unfolded during his pursuit of Bachelor degrees at Wright State University, where his ardor for music ignited into a fervent flame.

A virtuoso at heart, Tommy's melodic prowess found expression as he assumed the mantle of Minister of Music at prominent churches in Dayton. This journey culminated in the inception of Tommy McGuffey & True Worship, a musical ensemble that resonates with audiences both locally and nationally. Their performances alongside Gospel luminaries like Dorinda Clark-Cole and VaShawn Mitchell attest to Tommy's unwavering commitment to musical excellence.

Yet, Tommy's impact transcends mere performance; his role as an adjunct instructor and collaborative pianist at the University of Dayton underscores his dedication to nurturing the next generation of musical talents. Across lecture halls and stages, Tommy imparts wisdom garnered from his impactful music ministry projects such as "The Declaration" and "Faze2: The Shift," alongside his literary contribution, "The Call: A Musical Guide Into the Urban Church."

Tommy's influence extends far and wide, evident in his tenure as an instructor for the esteemed Gospel Music Workshop of America (GMWA) and his collaboration with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra. His original compositions, showcased in the DPO Catalogue, epitomize his versatility and ingenuity in musical composition.

Currently, Tommy's endeavors at the University of Dayton include accompaniment for the Ebony Heritage Singers and serving as a collaborative pianist for the Vocal Area Masterclass. Concurrently, he pursues further studies in music at Sinclair and Wright State University, paving the way for his next academic triumph in the realm of music education and performance.
