Profile

Emily McConkie, a native of Illinois, began her rewarding journey as a pianist by begging her parents for piano lessons at age 5. She discovered collaborative piano at 15, accompanying her high school and church choirs in Arizona.

Emily received a B.M. in Music Education with a vocal emphasis from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. While earning her degree, she continued collaborative work playing for student recitals, NATS competitors, church choirs and the private vocal studio of two BYU Musical Theatre professors. In 2012, she returned to Arizona with her own young family. Shortly thereafter she was hired as the collaborative pianist for her alma mater’s choral program and Mesa Community College vocal jazz ensemble, voice master classes and Musical Theatre summer workshop. Soon after relocating to Ohio in 2018, she began and continues to enjoy collaborative work with the Centerville Community Chorus and the University of Dayton Chorale and vocal studios. Throughout her musical career, performances have taken her coast-to-coast within the U.S. and Puerto Rico. In addition to her musical endeavors, she loves going on adventures with her family and her goldendoodles.

Faculty perspective

"I feel very fortunate and blessed to be a part of the music department at UD. The atmosphere is one of collaboration and connection. I have always valued exploring and experiencing music with others and have found a welcoming and creative environment to do so within this department. I find deep fulfillment in personally connecting with music and expressing and sharing that connection. Through my collaborative work at UD, I have the opportunity to experience that process with talented and dedicated students and staff, share the gift of music with the community, and continue to develop both musically and personally."
