Profile

Professor Hilyer earned his B.A. from Asbury University and his M.A. from the University of Dayton. In his teaching of ENG 100 and 200 courses, he focuses on introducing students to the habits of a creative person and the particular ways writing and reading act as tools for cultivating such habits as listening and questioning both in silence and conversation. He is interested in building a learning space along with students around various subjects that include education, equality, spirituality and art.

Faculty perspective

“My sincere love for students and teaching has only deepened since I began at UD as a graduate student and now as faculty. I feel that I have been able to make a meaningful learning environment, often in unexpected ways, within the classroom with the help of students. My desire remains to meet students where they are, and they have consistently challenged me and encouraged me toward growth that will benefit the students that follow them.”
