What do you like most about your major?

One of my favorite things about the sustainability major is the intersectionality of it. Throughout my college experience, I have learned about sustainability through multiple perspectives such as biology, religion, business and history. Learning about sustainability from diverse perspectives, I am able to provide a wider scope of sustainability. I also love the flexibility of the Sustainability major. I can take classes that I am interested in from different majors and it will apply to sustainability in some way.

What do you love most about UD?

I love UD because of the small-school feel with large-school support. Even though Dayton's undergrad population is around 8,000 there are so many resources that are made available to us. Whatever you are interested in, UD has it.

Favorite class at UD and why?

My favorite class at UD was Faith Traditions: Care for the Earth. This class looked at climate change, the environment and sustainability through a religious perspective, since organized religion has historically had a major influence on the public. For this class, we looked at not just Catholicism, but other faith traditions such as Buddhism and how they view their relationship to the Earth.

What piece of your academic journey has most prepared you to begin a career after graduation?

One of the best things that I have been involved in is the HSI (Hanley Sustainability Institute) Student Leader Program. I have learned so much skills that will help in my future career, such as leadership, organization and creative brainstorming. The Student Leader Program has also provided me with so many connections to the Sustainability World outside of UD.

What clubs/organizations are you involved in at UD?

I am a student leader on the Education and Engagement Team at the Hanley Sustainability Institute and also their Local Policy and Progress Student Director. With these positions, I, along with my team, run the Flyers Go Green events and Conscious Living Chats. I am also the Sustainability Chair for the Student Government Association. I also sit on the Student Sustainability Leadership Council as an SGA and HSI representative.

Why did you choose UD?

I chose UD when I stepped on campus for the first time. The atmosphere of UD fosters an amazing learning environment where everyone wants to see and help you succeed.
