What do you like most about your major?

As a Pre-medicine major, I relish the challenge of grappling with intellectually stimulating problems in my coursework. It is rewarding to apply practical skills in the laboratory and see conceptual theories from lectures manifest in real life. I value the way my classes expand my perspective and provide me with knowledge on a diverse range of subjects.

What do you love most about UD?

The campus here is truly breathtaking, especially during autumn when the leaves change colors, and in the spring when the plants and flowers bloom. Taking a walk around the campus is a great way for me to relax and admire the beauty of nature. I feel fortunate to have made some wonderful friends since joining the Flyer community, and they have become an important part of my support network. Furthermore, I am grateful for the unwavering support and guidance my professors offer me.

Have you ever studied abroad? If so, where and what did you learn most from that experience?

During spring break, I participated in a language and culture anthropology class in the Yucatec Peninsula of Mexico, which offered a unique opportunity to study abroad. As someone who is passionate about studying human interaction and cultures, I gained valuable knowledge about a culture that is vastly different from my own. This experience provided insight into how to communicate and interact with individuals who hold different values and beliefs than myself, which is an essential skill both personally and professionally.

Have you ever participated in faculty-mentored research? If so, what did you learn from that experience?

Currently, I am a part of a Neuroscience lab on campus where I conduct research on cerebellar circuits that are related to developmental disorders. Being a part of this lab has helped me to visualize microscopic subjects that I learn about in my psychology and biology classes. Moreover, it has increased my interest in the complex functioning of the human body.

Favorite class at UD and why?

I am currently enrolled in Human Physiology at UD and find the subject matter to be quite enjoyable. The human body is akin to a well-oiled machine when operating in a healthy state. However, when things go awry, symptoms can vary greatly from person to person. Despite a shared foundation of organs, tissues and cells, illnesses can present themselves in distinct ways for each individual. The investigation of these unique pathologies is truly fascinating.

What piece of your academic journey has most prepared you to begin a career after graduation?

After earning my Bachelor's degree, my plan is to enroll in medical school. The internship I completed at Miami Valley Hospital was crucial in my preparation for this next phase of my career. While working with the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Team for seven weeks, I focused on developing a research project that centered on cost-benefit analysis. As a result, I had the opportunity to present my findings to the hospital board. This was my first exposure to a hospital setting, and it provided me with valuable insights into the responsibilities of a doctor. This experience has confirmed my desire to pursue a career in medicine as my true passion.

What clubs/organizations are you involved in at UD?

  • Multicultural Association of Premedical Students (vice president)
  • UD Healing Hearts volunteer, Miami Valley Hospital
  • Alpha Epsilon Delta

Why did you choose UD?

Without ever visiting the campus, I chose the University of Dayton, and I can confidently say it was the best decision I could have made. Upon arriving on campus, I immediately felt a sense of belonging, and the campus' fresh and clean environment only amplified that feeling. As I learned more about the college and its community, I grew more confident in my decision. I discovered a strong sense of community during my freshman year and this has become my biggest support system. I've made lifelong friends and found teachers who genuinely care about my development and success. Reflecting on my journey at UD, I am amazed by my growth. I embrace my mistakes, constantly grow and develop, overcome generational traumas, set ambitious goals and work tirelessly to achieve them. I owe much of my personal growth to the welcoming and supportive campus community. This past year has been transformative, and sometimes I find it hard to recognize myself due to the extent of my transformation. Attending the University of Dayton has been a life-changing experience that has helped me become someone I am proud of, achieve my goals, and find a community that feels like home.

Is there anything else about your UD experience you think prospective students and their families should know?
