Davis Center for Portfolio Management

A portion of the University's Endowment, the Flyer Investments Fund is a 100% student-managed portfolio administered by approximately 60 undergraduates in the Davis Center for Portfolio Management.

Founded in 1999 with $1 million in funding from the Board of Trustees and with additional, periodic infusions totaling $13 million since, the Fund's assets have grown to $59.9 million as of June 30, 2021.

On that date, our student-run fund achieved the distinction of being the largest in the country, with nearly $60 million AUM. (Davis Center student managers are also responsible for a separate equity portfolio containing a pool of Dayton Foundation assets.)

The Davis Center manages a portion of the University endowment in conjunction with seniors enrolled in the Finance 493 course (Seminar in Investments), who act as the Investment Committee. These student managers work in a high-tech, interactive Center that simulates a Wall Street trading floor with tools such as Bloomberg, FactSet, and Morningstar Direct.

The alumni of the Davis Center now total over 600 and work at some of the most respected investment firms on Wall Street, including BlackRock, Citadel, Citi, Cleveland Research, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, PIMCO, Robert W. Baird and William Blair.

Student Leadership Team

The Davis Center student leadership team is comprised of three seniors and three juniors led by a senior manager. This year's senior manager of the Center is Bridget Momper, a senior from Cincinnati, majoring in Finance and International Business Management.

Since the establishment of the Flyer Investments Fund, the student managers have generated a capital gain in excess of $40 million on behalf of the University Endowment.

About the Davis Center

The Davis Center for Portfolio Management was formally founded in the fall of 1999 by alumnus Mr. Dick Davis and his wife Sue, the University Board of Trustees, President Bro. Raymond Fitz, CFO Tom Burkhardt, SBA Dean Dr. Sam Gould, Director Dr. David Sauer, and inaugural student manager Adam Molina, with a one million dollar grant from the University of Dayton’s Endowment.

There were originally 27 additional members of the “core” team who launched the Center and laid the foundation for years to come.  These individuals, along with the Director, created the backbone of the Davis Center, including the policies, procedures, and structure of the student organization that would manage the Flyer Investments Fund.

The Center has had four Directors in its 20-year history:

  • Prof. Daniel Kapusta (2017 to present)
  • Prof. Michael Kalbfleisch (2010-2016)
  • Prof. Leslie Douglas (2013-2016)
  • Prof. David Sauer (1999-2010)

The Fund's fiscal year ends March 31.
