Find Your Community at UD

Creating a welcoming and inclusive campus has always been the foundation of our Marianist education. At the University of Dayton, we offer two Integrated Learning-Living Communities (ILLC) to undergraduates to help you form friendships and create a space where you can live, learn and grow together.

Because you're taking most of the same classes and living with the same group of people, you'll make more friends and receive help when needed. Many students report ILLC's are a highlight of their UD experience.

Core ILLC

Core is the oldest ILLC at UD.

The Core Program is a 2.5-year interdisciplinary curriculum that emphasizes the University of Dayton's signature characteristics: a student community that forms lasting friendships, excellent faculty who are enthusiastic about teaching and working closely with students and dynamic engagement with the arts and culture in Dayton.

The Core ILLC includes first-year student floors in Marycrest Complex, and an upperclassman house on College St. in the Student Neighborhood.

Core ILLC Opportunities

  • Live with other Core students in the residence halls.
  • Take required general education (CAP) classes, in an intentional, integrated progression, with fellow Core members.
  • Interact with Core Fellows (second-year Core students) when they hold office hours in your residence hall to address questions about the readings and lectures and to help with preparations for exams.
  • Interact with Core Write Place Consultants (students who are in Core or have graduated from Core) as they help you with writing assignments.
  • Get together with friends for ice cream, cookouts, and other activities. Some events are officially planned by the program, but many are planned by Core students with support from faculty, Core Fellows, Core Resident Assistants (RAs) and residents of the Core Houses in the student neighborhood.

WISE ILLC

The Women in Science and Engineering ILLC is a community of students who share interests and goals in science, health science, engineering, mathematics and related fields. The program fosters meaningful connections, offers opportunities for peer mentorship and provides experiences that promote both academic and personal growth.

The WISE ILLC includes a first-year student floor in Stuart Hall, and an upperclassman house on Kiefaber St. in the Student Neighborhood.

WISE ILLC Opportunities

  • Live in community with other women in science, health science and engineering majors.
  • Your roommate does not need to be part of WISE or a STEM major.
  • Take classes such as general chemistry and engineering innovations with fellow WISE members.
  • Participate in a peer mentoring program with upper-level students.
  • Network with faculty and companies through the Diversity in Engineering Center.
  • Build community and friendships.
