Educating Future Teachers with Purpose and Passion

As a University of Dayton Teacher Education student, you'll prepare to be an educator at the early, middle or secondary level. Students build learning communities through hands-on educational experiences and practical implementation of the curriculum. You'll learn not only from your professors, but from your classmates and your own students to become an outstanding educator.

Every Student Is Unique. So Are We.

Field Placements (Student Teaching/Clinical Experience)

Our undergraduate students spend 800+ hours in local classrooms. This starts in year one, when students visit our local partner schools, logging observation hours as part of their coursework and exposure to the profession of teaching. Field-based experiences in the first three years give students 100+ hours of learning in the field. Student teaching (internship) during year four provides an additional 600+ hours of hands-on classroom experience.

Undergraduate students studying Adolescence to Young Adult Education (B.S.E.) or Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 5 (B.S.E.) benefit from learning opportunities at local demonstration schools such as Dayton Early College Academy (DECA) and UD's Bombeck Family Learning Center.

Urban Teacher Academy

This undergraduate certificate program prepares students who are interested in urban teaching to be culturally competent educators that can understand and respond to the needs and challenges of urban students, families and schools.

Undergraduate Research

Students participate in UD's annual Stander Symposium, a campus-wide event that allows students from all majors to showcase and celebrate their research, scholarship and artistic achievements.

Study Abroad

Summer study abroad programs in Ireland, England and Italy offer opportunities to explore museums, churches and schools through the lens of an educator.

Our Malawi Practicum allows opportunities for students to gain graduate-level research and fieldwork experience in Africa.

Lalanne

This specialized program is for teacher education graduates pursuing their master's degree at UD. Lalanne teachers benefit from two years of mentored teaching experience and live in community with other Lalanne teachers.
