Sporting at the Next Level

Sport clubs provide experiential learning opportunities through involvement in teamwork, fundraising, public relations, organization, administration, budgeting and scheduling, as well as the development of skills in their particular sport. UD students will be challenged not only physically, but intellectually and emotionally with the aim of realizing their full leadership potential.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a sport club?

Sport clubs allow students to get together regularly to learn a new sport or continue playing a sport they love. All University of Dayton sport clubs are student-run organizations with varied practice and competition schedules. Most sport clubs compete against other universities and are members of conferences or leagues. Some host events on campus but many also travel for competition.

How do I join a sport club?

Some of our sport club teams require tryouts, but many are always accepting members. For more information or to request accommodations, reach out to the contact listed on the sport club contact sheet.

Does it cost to join a sport club?

Most clubs charge semester or annual dues to each of its student-athletes. This money goes into the overall operating dollars the club needs to be able to function throughout the academic year.

How much commitment is required to join a sport club?

The level of commitment varies but on average, teams practice three times a week and compete on weekends.

I want to play a sport that isn't listed. How can I start up a club?

In addition to sport clubs, the Center for Student Involvement oversees more than 240 student organizations. If the sport you are interested in is not listed, you may complete a “Potential New Organization Interest Form” by logging into 1850. Registered student organizations in good standing for at least two consecutive semesters that meet sport club criteria may apply for sport club status at udcrsportclubs@udayton.edu

Need to be evaluated before or after a game?

For sport club members, we have clinic hours that can provide walk-in injury evaluations. An athletic trainer from the Dayton Children's Hospital provides athletic training clinic hours once per week, with the exception of UD holiday breaks. These hours vary per semester and will be communicated to active sport club members. No appointment is needed!
