Engineering a Better Tomorrow

The University of Dayton School of Engineering's centers and institutes play a distinctive role in your learning experience, creating lessons centered around practical wisdom. Centers extend our focus on experiential learning beyond the classroom into a variety of activities including research, community building, global learning and innovation.

Academic and Student Success Centers

Diversity in Engineering Center

The Diversity in Engineering Center is home to the Multi-Ethnic Engineers Program, Women Engineering Program and International Engineering Student Engagement.

We connect engineering students, faculty, staff, and industry and community partners with opportunities for academic success, professional networking and inclusive communities. All engineering students are welcomed and encouraged to participate in these programs.

The ETHOS Center

A transformational service-learning opportunity. You'll apply practical engineering skills for humanitarian purposes. Travel the world and be immersed in different cultures. You might just re-discover yourself in the process.

The Innovation Center

The Innovation Center is home to engineering design, entrepreneurial learning and creativity. We connect industrial, entrepreneurial and community clients with real-world challenges to student teams who are ready to find solutions.

Research Centers

Building Energy Center

The Building Energy Center improves building performance and energy efficiency, educates energy efficiency engineers, and advances building energy engineering. It also offers services like low-cost energy assessments.

Center of Excellence for Computational Intelligence and Machine Vision (Vision Lab)

The Vision Lab focuses on inventing new technologies for sensor-based information extraction and automatic decision-making, and to train undergraduate and graduate students in the areas of machine intelligence and autonomous systems.

Center of Excellence for Thin-Film Research and Surface Engineering

UD researchers established CETRASE to focus on improvements of sensors, electronics, electro-optics and energy systems.

Center for Flame Retardant Materials Science

The Center for Flame Retardant Materials Science is a collaboration between the University of Dayton Research Institute and the UD departments of Chemistry; Chemical and Materials Engineering; and Civil and Environmental Engineering and Engineering Mechanics.

Industrial Training and Assessment Center

ITAC is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy to conduct free energy assessments for small- to mid-sized manufacturers to help save energy, improve productivity and reduce waste.

Lidar and Optical Communications Institute

LOCI is an Air Force center of excellence. It's a collaboration between the Air Force Research Laboratory, Air Force Institute of Technology, UD, and the lidar/free space optical communication (FSOC) communities.
