Initiatives and Special Programs

The University of Dayton School of Education and Health Sciences offers numerous initiatives and programs for students and working professionals.

Brain Health Collective

The Brain Health Collective supports education initiatives, research, and community outreach in the areas of brain injury and brain health. This involves collaborations between educational and healthcare professionals at UD and local organizations such as Premier Health, Kettering Health, and Dayton Children's Hospital.

Community Wellness Initiative (formerly BHWET)

The Community Wellness Initiative — formerly known as Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training Program (BHWET) — is a collaborative effort between community partners, organizations and campus departments.

Through this initiative, graduate students studying clinical mental health counselingschool counseling and school psychology work alongside faculty in a lab structure, gaining real-world experience in mental health research.

ECHO (Empowering Children with Hope and Opportunity)

Empowering Children with Hope and Opportunity (ECHO) is a partnership between the University of Dayton Center for Catholic Education and local Catholic schools. Staffed by licensed mental health therapists and social workers, ECHO aids teachers and administrators in helping remove non-academic barriers to learning — poverty, exposure to addiction, violence, discrimination, separation or physical and sexual abuse.

Flyer Commitment Pathway

UD students who want to pursue physician assistant or physical therapy graduate programs can join the competitive Flyer Commitment Pathway for Health Professions to get a head start on the graduate application process.

Lalanne

Teacher education graduate students pursuing a master's degree at UD can apply for this specialized program. Lalanne program participants benefit from two years of mentored teaching experience and live in community with other Lalanne teachers.

Saint Remy Initiative

The Saint Remy Initiative is a collaboration between the UD Center for Catholic Education and the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. This professional learning community is designed to broaden participants' understanding of their own spiritual formation to enhance their effectiveness as Catholic educators.

Upward Bound

Upward Bound is an intensive, year-round college preparatory program that provides academic support and focuses on your personal development during high school. The program is open to prospective first-generation college students (meaning neither parent has received a four-year college degree), as well as students who come from families that meet federal low-income household guidelines.
