Construction management is responsible for providing an aesthetically pleasing campus environment that is conducive to learning, teaching and research. Other teams (e.g., operations, grounds, environmental health and safety) are involved in decision making for projects, as appropriate.
All construction work for the University of Dayton shall comply with the applicable requirements of any Federal, State of Ohio, or City of Dayton, code, law, regulation or guide.
Responsibilities
Construction management services include, but are not limited to:
- Oversight of capital projects and equipment.
- Management of all renovation and construction activities.
- Specifying and ordering furniture for campus use.
- Design and planning of facilities projects.
- Wireless "readiness".
- Specifications and orders for all interior and exterior signage, including plaques and temporary event signage. All signage shall comply with the Uniform Federal Accessibility Standards and the Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines, along with campus standards.
Process for Construction Standards
- Provide and recommend cost-effective designs that achieve the quality facility requirement and provide all necessary value engineering to ensure funds allocated are utilized to the best degree.
- Ensure compliance with relevant building, fire, accessibility, UFAS and OSHA codes regulations.
- We have developed our standards and are responsible for ensuring these standards are met during construction. We are also responsible for verifying that the standards being used are current. As methods evolve with technological and social advances, our standards will be revised.
- All design standards are organized in Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) format, Divisions 1 through 16.
