In Memoriam: Bruce Craver

Bruce Craver, a teacher, researcher and professor of physics at the University of Dayton for 38 years until he retired in 2016 at the rank of professor emeritus, died July 15. He was 76. 

Craver joined the physics department at UD in 1978, and colleagues said his passion for teaching impacted students at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum. He was an active member of the electro-optics program, teaching courses and supervising students. While his doctoral training was in nuclear physics, Craver conducted research in nonlinear and quantum optics at UD.

Born Nov. 15, 1947, in Rochester, Indiana, Craver earned bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees at Purdue University and completed post-doctoral work at Purdue and the Institute for Nuclear Physics at the University of Mainz in Germany.
